Fresh Syngas Drying

Fresh Syngas Drying

The syngas dryer based on the GIAP’s unique technology may be implemented in Ammonia Plants designed by GIAP (АМ-70, АМ-76, and АМ-80), ТЕС, CLE, Chemico, and АМ-600.

It is designed to fully remove any moisture and oxygenates from fresh syngas before feeding it to the ammonia synthesis circuit.

The natural gas saturator may be used in Ammonia Plants designed by GIAP (АМ-70, АМ-76, and АМ-80), ТЕС, CLE, Chemico, and АМ-600.

The syngas dryer with a modified fresh nitrogen/hydrogen mix (NHM) feeding path to the recycle circuit is intended to improve energy efficiency of ammonia plants and extend synthesis catalyst life.
Energy efficiency of an ammonia plant is improved due to:

Extended catalyst life is achieved by decreasing its rate of poisoning (water content in the dryer lowers from 200 ppm to max. 2 ppm).

The dryer’s principle of operation consists in fresh NHM drying inside a newly installed packed vessel by washing it with liquid ammonia. The new heat exchanger incorporates a waste heat recovery function. An oil filter separator is provided to recover compressor oil before delivery to the recycle circuit of the ammonia converter. The point of fresh NHM dosing to the recycle circuit is relocated.
