In June, the Uralchem’s plant in Kirovo-Chepetsk commissioned a GIAP developed and supplied upgraded feed water heater at ammonia unit AM-70

The GIAP Group upgraded the low pressure feed water heater (tag 503) on the Kirovo-Chepetsk industrial site. The scope of work included design, development of engineering documentation and equipment supply.

The low pressure feed water heater makes part of major equipment used in ammonia units АМ-70, АМ-76, АМ-80. Flow resistance of the heater (tag 503) grew together with the capacity of the upgraded ammonia units. At present, the problem is common to all GIAP’s ammonia units upgraded to a higher capacity.

The GIAP Group’s unique solution and use of state-of-the-art computation and design methods improved substantially performance of the heater:

- Gas pressure drop reduction by 0.3 kgf/cm2

- Weight reduction by 10%

- Basic heater dimensions remaining the same, which enables installation in its original location in the existing АМ-70 ammonia units.

It is to note that fabrication supervision by the design contractor (JSC GIAP) secured full compliance of the item with regulatory and engineering documentation, and hence achievement of the design performance.

At present, the heater is ramped up to its operating duty in the AM-70 ammonia unit in Kirovo-Chepetsk, with all design performance data proven in operation, and competences and diligent approach to fulfilling the commitments highly appreciated by the customer.

The GIAP Group is a domestic technology licensor in the nitrogen industry, and specializes in development and delivery of up-to-date equipment for mineral fertilizers plants. The acquired experience in engineering and upgrade, scientific and expert framework deliver high performance of equipment at optimal CAPEX.
