JSC GIAP completed the first stage of Ammonia-4 Unit revamping at JSC Grodno Azot in the Republic of Belarus
In the early hours of December 7, ammonia was produced after turnaround and a complex of commissioning works for the plant.
The following main activities for plant modernization were performed during plant turnaround: revamping of desulfurization stage, installation of a new heat-energized package of primary reformer, equipment installation of natural gas saturation and gas condensate MP distillation stages.
Installation supervision was managed by the specialists of equipment manufacturers, GIAP and the Customer’s operation service.
On November 19, commissioning works were started in Ammonia-4 workshop. In the night of December 7, the first product was obtained. The uniqueness of commissioning works was their combination with the drying of the new heat-energized package lining and introduction of a new stage of natural gas saturation.
The project is of strategic importance for the industry: it’s the first time in the modern history when a large scale project for ammonia production development is being implemented without participation of foreign engineering companies, when a revival of competences in domestic equipment fabrication for ammonia plants occurs, including high pressure equipment – after a long break, a heat-energized package of reformer furnace, heat exchanging and column-type equipment were designed and manufactured in Russia.
GIAP developed the whole package of the Project Documentation for the project: Basic Design, Architectural and Civil Projects, equipment design documentation for the new process equipment of natural gas saturation and gas condensate distillation stages.
The equipment was fabricated at the domestic manufacturers’ sites – JSC Zavkom, ALITER-AXI LLC and others. The manufacturing process required high level of competences of all project participants and took more than a year.
Successful implementation of the next stage of the project once again proved the high level of professional competence of GIAP, technological potential of domestic manufacturers, as well as mutually profitable partnership between JSC GIAP, JSC Grodno Azot and the Russian chemical machine manufacturers.
The start-up of the modernized production plant is an important step in development of the nitrogen industry of the RB and strengthening of its position in the global market.
