On March 15 Russian Nitrogen industry and GIAP commemorated 95th anniversary

Dear colleagues and partners!

On March 15, 1931 GIA (State Institute of Nitrogen) was established laying the foundations for nitrogen industry in USSR. It was later reorganized to GIAP (Research and Design Institute of Nitrogen Industry and Products of Organic Synthesis).

Over the 95-year history more than 30 ammonia plants were built in the territory of Russia. Nowadays Ammonia production capacities exceed 18 mln. tons per year. Almost 30 mln. tons of nitrogen fertilizers were produced in 2025, and more than 11 mln. tons among them - urea production.

In spite of all challenges the industry is moving forward and showing output growth. Numerous prospective projects are targeted for implementation, such as: Ammonia plant with the capacity of 1,2 mln. tons per year in Mendeleevsk, Ammonia & Urea complex with ammonia capacity of 1,8 mln. tons per year in Nakhodka, Ammonia & Urea complex with ammonia capacity of 1,1 mln. tons per year in Budyonnovsk (Stavropol Krai) and others.

Today GIAP keeps the lead in technologies supply, design and engineering in the industry. We are proud of our history, venerating traditions and facing the future with confidence.

We appreciate high professionalism and competences of all the specialists and we are grateful for their contribution to progress and commitment to the cause. We wish prosperity, new achievements, successful projects and stable advancement to all our colleagues and partners!
